Will they just make up their mind?

I guess Pelosi couldn't get the votes necessary to pass their "embarrass Bush with benchmarks" plan:

Top House Democrats retreated Monday from an attempt to limit President Bush's authority for taking military action against Iran as the leadership concentrated on a looming confrontation with the White House over the Iraq war.

Officials said Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other members of the leadership had decided to strip from a major military spending bill a requirement for Bush to gain approval from Congress before moving against Iran.

Conservative Democrats as well as lawmakers concerned about the possible impact on Israel had argued for the change in strategy.

It's good to see that there are still some Democrats with enough sense to pull the party back from the cliff they were about to jump over (both the US and Iraq). This is not going to go over well in the left side of the blogosphere and I bet a lot more people are going to show up at Pelosi's door.

I wonder how the anti-war movement feels to be thrown under the bus this way. I hope they finally get it through their heads that they are powerless until the next election when all the power rests in their hands. They are not going to be able to protest this president into retreat, no matter how many times they yell, "No blood for oil" and "Bush lied, people died." And it doesn't appear that they are going to protest the Congress into retreat either.
