Blogburst this Thursday for Fred Thompson

Rick Moran is suggesting that Fredhead bloggers participate in a Blogburst to raise money for him this Thursday:

All of us know the long odds faced by Fred Thompson in his efforts to win the GOP nomination for president. I’m sure you are all aware that Fred has undertaken pretty much of a do or die bus tour of Iowa in order to finish strongly in the Caucuses on January 3.

Many of you have already taken steps to support the Thompson campaign in a tangible way by placing fundraising widgets on your sidebar and writing about the campaign. In this way, each of us alone has done whatever we can to support Fred in his efforts.

But at this, the 11th hour of the campaign in Iowa, I think it would be a very effective fundraising tool if as many of us as possible were to participate in an old-fashioned Blogburst, writing a post asking readers to donate to the campaign while embedding a fundraising widget in the post for convenience.

I propose Thursday, December 27 for the Blogburst. If you have an email list, I would urge you to ask your subscribers to donate. If you know of other bloggers who support Fred, please forward this email and ask them to participate as well.

Not expecting a “money bomb” but even a few tens of thousands of dollars would help, I’m sure. Given the number of readers represented in the blogs listed here (where I got all of your email addresses) and your cooperation, I feel confident we can give a real shot in the arm to the campaign.

I don’t think any of us believe that our endorsement of Thompson alone means that much in the long run. But working together, uniting for one day and speaking with one voice, I think we could make a significant impact on Fred’s chances in Iowa. After all, when the candidate you support rolls the dice as Fred has, the least we can do is back his play to the best of our ability.

Here. Two observations:

1. Even with all their popularity, blogs still rank behind MSM.
2. Politico should not be on this list, it's not a conservative website.

What the heck do you people think I owe you?

Please excuse the blunt tone of the title but I'm getting a little tired of the attitude of comments from our lefty readers. Here is a typical comment:

when you make a valid point counter to the group-think, there comes the move that i call "the dodge" or the one i call "the deflection" or the all too familiar "i get it, you don't, and i'm not going to try to explain it to you" excuse. the latter is michele's fav.

hang out long enough and you'll see the pattern. eventually you get used to it.

It's anonymous, of course. What this commenter fails to realize is that he isn't paying me to respond to him, there's really no incentive for me to do so. Replying to comments takes time away from other things I have to do. Since I have limited time, I will only respond to one or two iterations of an argument. If I see that it will take too long for me to respond, I won't. If I see that we are going over the same arguments, I get bored and stop responding. Sometimes I just don't have the time to continue the argument even when I really would like to do so. So, it really isn't me saying, "I understand it you don't" so there! It's more like, "I have a reason but I don't have the time to get into it because I have to study for a Greek quiz or I have to work on my exegesis paper or read the stack of books that I need to read for the final or have to use my limited time to write posts before I take my daughters to school." Or it could be, "Man! I've explained my position twice, I'm outta here." Or "There is no way I'm going to explain why I said that because it will take me three pages of explanation and I won't get a thoughtful response to it."

I have nothing to prove on this blog, I'm not your educator, nor your mom and it's not my job to help you to see my point. I don't care if you do. When I started this blog, all I wanted to do was share interesting links and have a place to vent. I'm happy to give you a place to respond and have a little dialogue but I'm not here to defend my point of view. I don't have to because I don't want to convince anyone of my point of view. It's just not that important to me.

There are probably other bloggers out there who may be interested in convincing you of supply-side economics, the reason we went into Iraq (it wasn't just about WMDs -- and don't even bother trying to engage me on that one), why we may need to do precision bombing in Iran, why the Democrat nominee will probably lose the election next year (and given my terrible track record predicting what the voters will do, it's a good thing I won't defend it :-), why Thompson would make a good president (yeah, even that -- his campaign isn't paying me to do PR), why universal healthcare would be the worst thing to happen to this nation, why an isolationist like Ron Paul is the wrong candidate to nominate during a time of global conflict, etc.

Now, as you may have notice I've only listed political positions. I'm more than happy to engage in a dialogue about religion and Christianity and I really do want to convince you of my position on that :-) But my time is limited and I probably won't keep up my side of the argument in a timely manner.

So, I'm sorry but I'm not the type of blogger who will engage in long, heated debates. I have a reason for my position on issues and I know that there are many of you who don't get it and think I'm an idiot. That's OK. I'm secure in the knowledge of my ability to understand complex issues and don't need your validation.

Update: Weblog Awards

Well, my dilemma over voting for the Best Conservative Blog has been resolved. John Hawkins has thrown his support behind another candidate, so that frees me up to vote for Newsbusters.

The 2007 Weblog Awards

It's time once again to vote for your favorite blogs. This year we didn't make the cut (yeah!). I didn't even know it was going on until I started getting emails about it.

Voting for Best Blog will be easy because it's got to be Michelle Malkin but Best Conservative Blog is going to be harder. I'm torn between Newsbusters and Right Wing News. I think I'm going to split my vote -- on my daughter's computer I'll vote for Newsbusters and on my laptop I'll vote for Right Wing News. Best Online Community is hands down Little Green Footballs, Best Political Coverage is RealClearPolitics, Best Business Blog is The Club for Growth, Best Technology Blog has got to be Engaget and of course Evangelical Outpost is the Best Religious Blog.

And there can be no way that Best Video Blog can go to anyone but Hot Air. If it does, then they were robbed!

It's, of course, expected that you will follow my lead :-)

3 Christian Bloggers Endorse Huckabee

Pretty significant pick up of Joe Carter, Matthew Anderson and Justin Taylor:

For several months we have admired the scrappy campaign of Gov. Huckabee but believed it would be a wasted effort to support him with our time, energy, and finances. We bought into the notion that he could never get the GOP nomination since conservative voters would not support him. And the reason we were told conservative voters would never support him is because he could not get the nomination. To quote John Piper (from a different context), "It’s like the army being defeated because there aren’t enough troops, and the troops won’t sign up because the army’s being defeated."

They make a pretty compelling case for why conservatives should vote for Huckabee. And no, they didn't convince me. I know that Huckabee isn't a federalist and I am. He believes that government can be the solution to problems and I believe government is the problem, not the solution. And though they believe that Huckabee is the antitheses of Bush, I believe he is the next iteration of Bush. He is a more articulate Bush and I don't want four more years of Bush.

Though, Huckabee is my backup candidate in case Thompson's campaign implodes.
