The Weblog Awards

I was sad to see that our category has become a battleground between the left and the right of the blogosphere. I guess with Kos getting his hindquarters kicked by lgf, the left had to find a new area to pitch a battle. There was a controversy over name calling at one of the conservative blogs and now DU is championing the offended blog. The conservative blog put a stop to it (it was happening in the comments section) but that won't put a stop to the fight.

With this becoming a contest between the left and the right, I don't see this being about the best anymore and more about who really wants to trounce the other side the most. I think the left is more committed to that. I feel sorry for the victor because the title will be tainted. They're not the best, only the winner in a tug of war contest.

BTW, DU called us (those of us on the right) "right wing rant-fests." Painting with a board brush as usual and they call us simplistic and reactionary! Clearly that is a mislabel of this blog because we are not a rant fest at all, we're more like a conservative/libertarian/Christian /rantish/informative/snarky blog. See the difference? And since when is stating what you believe a rank-fest? konagod does what we do but from a left side perspective, is his blog considered a rank-fest by the left?

I think name calling from either side is uncalled for and we should all repudiate it as the conservative blog did and move on with the fun part of this competition.

I should take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for us. We are getting our hindquarters kicked but we've accomplished what I set out to do, increase traffic and name recognition. And of course not to mention the sidebar bling.

BTW, I checked to see who was voted Best New blog last year. Do you know? It was Yellow Dog Blog, ever hear of it? The name changed but I've never heard of it. You know who competed that year, Atlas Shrugs, basil's blog and Glenn Greenwald to name a few of the well-known blogs. When we lose we will be in good company. This kind of put it all in perspective for me. Awards are transitory and won't bring the thing that you're looking for. Nothing can fill the emptiness of the soul, certainly not an award. The applause of men is fleeting and usually empty, but the love of the Lord is eternal.
