Here is something that is really annoying, when churches use shock tactics to bring in visitors:
In spring of 2006, Granger Community Church finished a five-week series called PureSex. To help promote the series, Granger employed an outdoor advertising campaign that featured a photo of a coupleÂs feet entwined under the covers and the Web address mylamesexlife.com.This is from the church's website. Click here to see the ad.
Tackling topics like "The Greatest Sex You'll Ever Have", "The Language of Lust" , "Straight Talk for Men and Women", "What Happens in Vegas WON'T Stay in Vegas" and "Porn: What's the Big Deal?" has allowed for lots of interesting conversations for Granger's guests and the community.
What they don't mention is that the community was upset about it and the sign was above a Hooters restaurant.
Some parents who live near a Hooters restaurant in Granger, Indiana are pretty upset. Above the Hooters restaurant is a huge billboard with the photo of a man and woman, (presumably), their naked feet hanging out of an unmade bed. Underneath the photo are the words, www.mylamesexlife.com. The word Âsex is in red. These parents are outraged that their young children are asking questions about a subject that is inappropriate for their little minds. One of the mothers interviewed by a media outlet referred to the billboard as ÂdisgustingÂ.Read the rest here. And you can read more about it here. Also, here's an irate letter to the editor.
This is the worst type of bait and switch. Is this pastor going to preach about sex every week? Do you think that Joe Pagan is going to see the sign, go to the website and say, "They're going to talk about sex in church, let's go?" Won't Joe Pagan know that it probably won't be something that will rival what he gets on TV? What if you do get Joe Pagan into your church, then what do you do to entertain him next? Strippers?
