Bill Clinton: the media is forcing Hillary to go negative

Oh. My. Heck! No one can beat Clinton for sheer audacity:

Bill Clinton voiced his abiding anger at the media's coverage of him and his wife in Durham, N.H., today, and suggested that media bias will force Clinton to go negative on Barack Obama.

He also expressed his frustration that his wife is perceived by voters as divisive through, he said, no fault of her own.

Clinton, like his wife, is traveling New Hampshire taking questions from voters, and he spoke at the University of New Hampshire in Durham in response to a plea from a woman who said she'd like it "if you and Clinton joined Barack Obama in putting the Republicans on notice" that it was time to "change the game" and end the "meanness" and "manipulation" in politics.

Clinton replied that he liked the idea — in theory.

"I think we can change it as long as you have access to information by people who are committed to judging everybody by the same set of rules and following the same set of rules," he said. "According to the most recent media analysis, that’s not what’s happened so far, but yeah, I think it should be done."

Do yourself a favor and go read his whole quote. When you read it keep in mind how coddled the Clintons are by the MSM.

Also on the candidate's agenda on Saturday – Is Rush Limbaugh picking a fight with Mike Huckabee? Some members of the media seem to think so. Rush had some harsh words for the newest GOP presidential frontrunner on his show last week, supposedly in response to a Huckabee aide calling Rush an "entertainer."

"I don't know [why he's mad]," Huckabee said. "I don't know, I mean I really don't. But all I can do is hope that Rush will love me as much as I love Rush because I think he's terrific and he's been a very clarion voice for the conservative movement. Somebody said something that upset him. I don't know who and I don't know what and I can't fix what I don't know."

Is not Petraeus! He came up with the plans to turn the war around and he spent the last year doing so and yet they couldn't take the step to acknowledge that. Unbelievable! Their liberal bias yet again stops them from making the obvious choice. Too bad, it continues to make their award irrelevant because you know that the real newsmakers do not have a shot.

The Mormon Speech

Looks like Romney is putting off the Mormon speech until maybe the general election (if at all).

And it looks like he's going on the attack after Huckabee:

...the Romney campaign will spend the next few weeks hitting Huckabee on other issues, like immigration and taxes, which it believes are near and dear to most Christian conservatives.

According to an opposition document leaked to Beliefnet from a Romney advisor, the campaign will also attempt to paint Huckabee as being weak on terror, as pardoning too many violent criminals as Arkansas governor, and as a weak candidate due to lack of fundraising.

Good! Hopefully that will benefit Fred Thompson :-)

In the near future, the coverage of Huckabee will be an interesting exercise. How will reporters – most of whom cover politics, not faith – cover the theological underpinnings of a Huckabee candidacy? Most reporters can catch ‘inconsistencies’ in a politician’s record, but what are they to make of any religious inconsistencies?

Beyond the homespun charm and the extremely likeable persona, will the media turn this into 1960 all over again, when JFK had to distance himself from the Pope to gain additional credibility?

It’s clear by now that Huckabee would handle such questions smoothly; what is unclear is how the media will handle asking them.

What the heck? Is this guy suggesting Huckabee distance himself from Christianity? Though I know that he's leading himself into charges of wanting to set up a theocracy and trash our constitution, maybe he'll need to assure the general electorate that he doesn't want to take away their freedom (or have the power to do so).

BTW, how many MSMers do you think would even be able to spot a religious inconsistency? (I mean of the theological kind, not the moral kind :-)

Here. I thought it was actually helpful to know that the talking head who reads your news is a BDS suffer, we need to avoid their reporting since it is infected with their disease.

Now, if you were the publisher of this magazine wouldn't you start asking yourself the question, "Why can't these guys get it right?" This is what, the third time shoddy editing has missed a lying reporter. I think that it would behoove the publisher to send them to fact check training so that they could follow up on some of the more obvious lies. (Listen, if bloggers could find out that he was lying, why couldn't trained professionals?)

Wolf Blitzer "warned" not to pull "a Russert"

According to Drudge:

CNN's Wolf Blitzer has been warned not to focus Thursday's Dem debate on Hillary. 'This campaign is about issues, not on who we can bring down and destroy,' top Clinton insider explains. 'Blitzer should not go down to the levels of character attack and pull 'a Russert.'' Blitzer is set to moderate debate from Vegas, with questions also being posed by Suzanne Malveaux

Could you imagine if this were a Republican? Sheesh! I would hate to see what they would do to him. Let's see what the MSM say about this. Is the MSM biased? Are they going to ignore the hubris evident in this demand?

Update:"Back to You" a casualty of the strike?

I have been getting commenters on this post about the "Back to You" sitcom who say that the show has not been canceled. Here's what was reported in the AP:

Sitcoms that will stop the cameras include "Back to You," starring Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton, which will not return from a planned hiatus, said Chris Alexander, a spokesman for 20th Century Fox Television.

And here are the comments:

Fox will continue to air the new episodes as well as reruns. And it's still scheduled to air after Amercian Idol in Jan. So that's not a cancellation either. It's a postponement. By choice. SomeoneWithInfo: It was NOT cancelled. The press worded the situation wrong and it's' been spreaking around the net that it was cancelled. FILMING was cancelled - NOT the show.

Thompson responds to Post hit piece

He didn't know that his friend was a former drug dealer:

"I wish I had known about it a little earlier," Thompson said to reporters before his appearance on NBC's 'Meet the Press.' "Phil I'm sure knows that he should have told me about this, but he thought it was over and done with and forgotten about I’m sure. But of course nothing is ever over and done with and forgotten about in this business."

The Post went on to say that Martin was charged in 1983 with violating his probation, along with multiple counts of felony bookmaking, cocaine trafficking and conspiracy. The newspaper said Martin pleaded no contest to cocaine-trafficking and conspiracy charges, which were part of a plan to sell $30,000 worth of cocaine, and was continued on probation.

"I know him to be a good man," Thompson said on Sunday. "I know him to be a man who has rehabilitated himself and led a productive life. He's my friend. He's gonna remain my friend."

As for Martin's future role with the campaign, Thompson said that has not been decided.

"You know, what I do about it after I talk to him with regard to the future we'll just have to see, sit down and work out, and do the right thing to a fellow who is a friend., but who is now on the front page of the Washington Post."

I guess one good thing that comes out of this, Thompson's Buzz Rank at Wonkosphere should improve this week :-)

Oh, look another hit piece by the Washington Post. Yeah, the media isn't biased, I'm sure we'll see a hit piece on Clinton any day now.

Republican presidential candidate Fred D. Thompson has been crisscrossing the country since early this summer on a private jet lent to him by a businessman and close adviser who has a criminal record for drug dealing.

Thompson selected the businessman, Philip Martin, to raise seed money for his White House bid. Martin is one of four campaign co-chairmen and the head of a group called the "first day founders." Campaign aides jokingly began to refer to Martin, who has been friends with Thompson since the early 1990s, as the head of "Thompson's Airforce."

Thompson's frequent flights aboard Martin's twin-engine Cessna 560 Citation have saved him more than $100,000, because until the law changed in September, campaign-finance rules allowed presidential candidates to reimburse private jet owners for just a fraction of the true cost of flights.

Martin entered a plea of guilty to the sale of 11 pounds of marijuana in 1979; the court withheld judgment pending completion of his probation. He was charged in 1983 with violating his probation and with multiple counts of felony bookmaking, cocaine trafficking and conspiracy. He pleaded no contest to the cocaine-trafficking and conspiracy charges, which stemmed from a plan to sell $30,000 worth of the drug, and was continued on probation.

Thompson's campaign said the candidate was not aware of the multiple criminal cases, for which Martin served no jail time. All are described in public court records.

Karen Hanretty, Thompson's deputy communications director, said yesterday that "Senator Thompson was unaware of the information until this afternoon. Phil Martin has been a friend of the senator since the mid-1990s and remains so today." Thompson communications director Todd Harris added that Martin was not subjected to the campaign's standard vetting process because "he's a longtime friend."

"There's not a campaign in the world that has the ability to research every one of its supporters going back more than 20 years," Harris said.

So, where's the research behind the advisers in the other camps? I'm sure we'll find plenty of dirt if we look long enough.

Harvard: The Media is Biased

Here you go, lefties. This proves it, there is no more disputing it, it's a fact. What is so obvious to anyone who actually watches the evening news or reads the paper knows that the MSM favors Democrats:

Just like so many reports before it, a joint survey by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard's Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy — hardly a bastion of conservative orthodoxy — found that in covering the current presidential race, the media are sympathetic to Democrats and hostile to Republicans.

Democrats are not only favored in the tone of the coverage. They get more coverage period. This is particularly evident on morning news shows, which "produced almost twice as many stories (51% to 27%) focused on Democratic candidates than on Republicans."

The most flagrant bias, however, was found in newspapers. In reviewing front-page coverage in 11 newspapers, the study found the tone positive in nearly six times as many stories about Democrats as it was negative.

Breaking it down by candidates, the survey found that Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were the favorites. "Obama's front page coverage was 70% positive and 9% negative, and Clinton's was similarly 61% positive and 13% negative."

In stories about Republicans, on the other hand, the tone was positive in only a quarter of the stories; in four in 10 it was negative.

Cheney hunts at a gun club and the press tries to create a controversy

The Daily News takes a picture of a confederate flag in the garage of the club and then show it to Sharpton. Notice where the club is located.

Vice President Dick Cheney spent about eight hours hunting Monday at a secluded Hudson Valley gun club where well-heeled enthusiasts shoot ducks and pheasants.

It was Cheney's second visit to Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club in Dutchess County, about 70 miles north of New York City. The previous trip was in fall 2001.

Although a heavy police presence kept the media and curious local residents at a distance, Cheney's visit did stir up a bit of controversy when a New York Daily News photographer snapped a picture of a small Confederate flag hanging inside a garage on the hunt club property.

The photo was shown to New York City civil rights activist, the Rev. Al Sharpton, who issued a statement demanding that the vice president "leave immediately, denounce the club and apologize for going to a club that represents lynching, hate and murder to black people."

Desmond Tutu went even farther, saying the generosity of Americans, that's what we should export, instead of our bombs. So, is this a way of reaching across to the world and saying, especially in this region of the world--

BUSH: Absolutely. In these countries, the United Arab Emirates is a very strong friend and ally to the United States, as is Kuwait and, you know, the other-- Jordan and Saudi Arabia, the other countries that I'll be visiting, are our allies. But you're right and Thomas Friedman's right and Desmond Tutu is right. And in fact, we do export our generosity. We just need to get the word out about it.

I would have gone off on the reporter and asked her what the heck were we supposed to do when attacked? Send them money? And what the heck does this reporter think we're doing in Africa? Haven't we spent billions on AIDS relief under President Bush? Laura Bush is right, we need to get it out there that we are generous even during a time of war. Hey, MSM! Do your job! Get the word out.
