World Powers Plead for Restraint

So, what else is new:

World powers have pleaded for restraint to stop the fiercest Israeli-Lebanese clashes in a decade slipping into all-out war.

US President George W. Bush blamed "terrorists who want to stop the advance of peace", while fellow UN Security Council members Russia and France condemned Israel's "disproportionate" use of force.
[...]
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, at a joint press conference with Bush, called for a "de-escalation", stressing the starting point had been the capture of the Israeli soldiers.

"The attacks did not start from the Israeli side, but from Hezbollah's side," she said. US President George W. Bush blamed "terrorists who want to stop the advance of peace", while fellow UN Security Council members Russia and France condemned
Israel's "disproportionate" use of force.
Yeah, like they would be restrained in similar situations. Does anyone in their right mind think that Russia would let rebels lob missiles into their country without doing something to defend themselves? Without creating a safety zone between them and the rebels attacking them? And maybe they should take their own words to heart and not use a "disproportionate use of force" against their own people (remember their use of poison gas against their people and the terrorists during the Moscow Opera house siege). And Germany and France aren't going to go at it anytime soon, so it's easy for them to criticize and to call for "de-escalation."

And speaking of "disproportionate use of force," shouldn't Hezbollah realize that? They have no defense against Israel, what makes them think they could do anything if Israel decides to take this all the way?
