When you are happy to just be nominated (and I really do mean that) and you have absolutely no expectation of winning, then it takes a lot of the pressure off, so a ten day voting period doesn't bother me. In ten days, I will be able to congratulate the winner and move on knowing that I never had a shot to begin with. Even though the ten day period is meant to help little pipsqueak blogs like us who are up against blogs with much higher daily traffic, I still believe that there is no way for us to overcome the discrepancy:
The reason The Weblog Awards is 10 days and the reason one vote a day is the rule is to level the playing field. I'll admit that I stumbled onto the formula in 2003 while trying to devise a system that would give blogs with lower daily readership a chance against blogs with much higher daily traffic. Call it the InstaPundit influence... I surmised that someone like InstaPundit's Glenn Reynolds would probably link to the inaugural edition of the awards only once. If the voting period was one day and he linked to the poll how, I figured, would a site with 1/10th of his daily traffic be able to compete?And I'm not sure that people will come to our blog and say, "Wow, they are the best thing since InstaPundit!" So, I'm under no illusion that we will prevail. But I would like to invite those who are new to this blog to know that we are a group blog ("group" being defined as mostly me with an occasional post be Ang and Susan) where we comment on current events that interest us and though we (meaning me) have been focusing on politics a lot lately, it's not the sole focus of the blog. My four areas of interest are the war on terror and related to that the atrocities committed against women and children in the name of Islam, persecution of Christians, politics and church related issues. But I also have interest in culture and entertainment as well (movie, TV and book reviews).
One area that I think I will be focusing on in the coming year is delving into worldview issues. We all come at world events from different angles and I think I want to explore that a little more this year.
Now, I know that the competition is touting the fact that they have cute pictures of the kid. And though I can't top that since I won't post pictures of my daughters, I have post pictures in the past and have the ability to do so in the future :-). Here's a sample:

And in the future I will be posting pictures from Disney World (which is beyond cute). What could be better than that?
And speaking of our competitors, thank you Lesbian Dad for graciously linking to us and the rest of your competitors and in a spirit of freedom from actually competing in this thing, I will follow suit and link to those who are "competing" against us:
It is an certainly an eclectic group.
Now, just because there is no chance we'll win, I still want you to vote for us (please, please, please) so that we don't have to face the prospect of a low percentage of the vote.
